3 Pillars of Training:
Patience, Timing, Consistency
Patience: One of the most important pillars of training is patience. Whether you're analyzing a snake waiting for days or weeks for prey to come along, or the way a wolf will chase down its prey by chasing it for miles over many hours in order wear them out so the wolf can eat. Animals utilize their patience to accomplish one of the most important things can an animal can do: eat. Patience is one of the many things that prove animals intelligence. It makes sense then that animals will test our patience and define our leadership qualities by how we stack up.
Timing: Dogs live in the moment so its important to respond to what they are doing in the moment not what they were doing even a second before. Timing is something we can learn and refine like any skill. There are times when we have to accept the moment was missed and wait patiently for the next one (or try to recreate it). We need to hone or skills and reflexes to be able to stop in a moment and change our facial expression, words, and body language.
Consistency: This matters for many reasons. If we don't consistently enforce the rules we create for our dog it will lead to confusion, our dog won't know what he is supposed to do. This forces him to make it up, which can sometimes lead to wreckless behavior. We need to our dogs to have confidence in our abilities as a leader. If we overreact or react inappropriately we can lose our dogs trust.
